We're Taking Our Democracy Back! - Alliance for Gambling Reform

We Want Our Democracy Back!

To the Board of Woolworths-

Australian democracy shouldn't be able to be bought, especially by an industry who does not act in the public interest.

In the lead up to both Tasmania and South Australia, we saw the industry, led by the Australian Hotels Association, buy out billboards, full-page newspaper ads, and television advertising filled with fear-mongering lies.

Democracy is about representation, but when a mob as greedy as the AHA can outspend communities and drown out anyone advocating and acting for the public good, our democracy has been compromised.

Stick to selling fresh food, not gambling harm.

I demand that you stop funding AHA's dangerous, fear-mongering political campaigning.

Australian elections shouldn't be able to be bought, especially by a greedy industry who does not act in the public interest.

The gambling industry is designed to harm Australian individuals, families and communities and bullies decision-makers to get their way. At the heart of it is Woolworths, Australia's largest pokie provider with more than 12,000 poker machines. Woolworths has even been funding the fear-mongering and dishonest campaigns of the Australian Hotels Association.

In the lead up to both Tasmania and South Australia, the Australian Hotels Association bought out billboards, full-page newspaper ads, and television advertising. In Tasmania, they even went as far as to print their political message onto receipts in cafes.

Democracy is about representation, but when a mob as greedy as the AHA can outspend communities and drown out anyone advocating and acting for the public good, our democracy has been compromised. We want to see Woolies sticking to fresh food, not helping AHA's dodgy political campaigning.

Sign the petition to demand that Woolies distances itself from AHA and dirty pokie politics.
