Right now, when Local Council's consider a permit for poker machines, they are not allowed to consider the social impacts of adding pokies to a local area. As the NSW Local Impact Assessment (LIA) is under review, ClubsNSW is pushing for less regulations around poker machines which will increase harm and hurt our communities. We need to act to stop them.
We want to see higher levels of scrutiny around pokies: every application should be subject to a process of assessing risks and potential harm and community consultation.
Pokies are designed to addict and should be subject to the regulations which other harmful products, like alcohol, face. There has been long-term and consistent growth of gaming machine revenue in NSW and the number of gaming machines in NSW is almost half of the national total. NSW is the state most affected from pokie-related harm. If ClubsNSW wins, this could get worse.
Send an email to the NSW Local Impact Assessment Review telling them to protect our communities!
