We are writing to the Minister for Prevention of Family Violence and the Minister for Consumer Affairs, Gaming and Liquor Regulation to raise their awareness regarding the approval of more pokies and the increased chances of related family violence in Hume. We need you to demand action and protect vulnerable women now.
The Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation recently published its decision on the application by the Highland Hotel in Craigieburn for 20 extra machines. However, they have acknowledged that this may lead to an increase in gambling related crime and family violence.
The State Government is currently investing heavily in preventing family violence. We want to see them putting this into practice at all opportunities. No purported “benefit” from poker machines could possibly justify or warrant the risk of a single additional case of family violence.
We are writing to the Minister for Prevention of Family Violence and the Minister for Consumer Affairs, Gaming and Liquor Regulation to raise their awareness to this issue and demand action.
