Sign the Petition: Will council candidates stand against pokies?

Dear Candidates,

As the NSW Local Government election approaches, we want to know where you stand on pokies.

NSW experiences the highest levels of poker machine related harm in the country with almost half of the $11.7 billion lost on pokies nationally coming from this state. High pokie density has been linked to increases in domestic violence, poverty, suicide and mental health issues. For every individual person suffering from a gambling problem, 5-10 are affected. This is approximately 5 million Australians annually.

Earlier this week, you would have received a survey from the Alliance for Gambling Reform asking you on your position on:

  1. NSW currently losing over $5.7 billion every year to poker machines.

  2. NSW resident not having access to Electronic Gaming Machine data

  3. NSW Councils not having a developed or adopted gambling policy

As a voter who is concerned about the impact of gambling on my community, I want to know where you stand. Please complete the survey and put pokies on your agenda!
