Stop the Secrecy: Tell us the Details of the New Casino

Dear Minister Lynham,

I am concerned about the proposed Queen's Wharf Casino. This is the largest development in Brisbane's history and yet, the public has barely been consulted. This project has the potential to do irrevocable damage to members of the Brisbane community if its negative impacts aren’t discussed, understood and addressed in advance.

The Queen’s Wharf casino is licenced for 2,500 gaming machines and I want to see more transparency. I demand that you release the Casino licence, the community impact statement, the cost-benefit analysis or business case and the results of the public consultation done in 2013. The community has a right to know the details of the casino and we need transparency. Stop the secrecy!

The Queen's Wharf mega-casino will be the largest development in Brisbane's history and we know almost nothing about it. We don’t know how much the land is worth – or how much developers will pay for it – because the Queensland Labor government won’t tell us. There’s no public cost-benefit analysis, and no business case. For any other development, basic planning and financial documents would be released but on this project, we know very little. This is the largest development in Brisbane and almost no public consultation has been done.

What we do know? 2,500 pokies are planned for the Casino! We also know the backers of Queens Wharf mega-casino have given $215,560 to Queensland Labor and the LNP in the past four years. This is looking dodgy and we want some transparency. Will you sign the petition demanding the secrecy stops?
