It's been 29 years since poker machines were introduced in Victoria.
We know all too well the harm caused by this predatory industry, and yet gambling harm is still not addressed in any of our state's public health plans and strategies.
At the end of the day, if our public institutions are not treating gambling as a health issue - we’re not doing Victorians justice. We know that gambling harm co-occurs alongside, prior to, and as a result of many other public health issues, such as mental ill-health, homelessness, and family violence.
We won the campaign against Big Tobacco by getting tobacco recognised as a health issue. Together, we can do the same with gambling.
