On February 5, Council is considering a plan to draw up a Gambling Harm Minimization Compact with the local pokie clubs and pubs. And you’re not in it. There are no pathways for community consultation, no plans to report to the community, and in fact, nothing really for the Council (representing you) to do.
Let’s fix that. Let’s put the community squarely in that Compact.
Write to Councillors to demand they support amendments that set up an annual Gambling Harm Impact Roundtable, open to the public, to report to the community on success under this local compact.
This is urgent – This will be the last chance for months, if not years, for Council to take real action over gambling harm that impacts the Inner West. We didn’t pressure them enough last year, and we lost by one vote on adopting a policy. Let’s not lose by one vote again.
