The Alliance for Gambling Reform has today welcomed the commitment from the Victorian Government to release the Royal Commission report by the Hon Ray Finkelstein AO QC into Crown’s casino operating license by the end of October. We are now calling for all recommendations to be accepted.

The Alliance for Gambling Reform’s Chief Advocate, Reverend Tim Costello says:

“We welcome the Minister’s commitment to release the report publicly by the end of October.

“Now we’re calling on the Minister and Premier to accept all of the Royal Commission recommendations, and implement them fully, effectively and swiftly.

“The stories of the harm caused by the gambling industry that came to light in the commission speak for themselves; we simply cannot afford to wait in tackling this crisis. The Royal Commission has heard the evidence; the Commissioner was appointed because of his clear expertise.

“The Alliance is demanding the Government not only implement all measures recommended by Finkelstein to reduce gambling harm in the casino, but to also expand those regulations to all gambling pubs and clubs in Victoria.

“The Victorian Government needs to step up and introduce improved regulations that put the onus on gambling venue operators to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our community.”
