Unfortunately, the Victorian Commission of Gambling and Liquor Regulation (VCGLR) have granted the Darebin RSL 15 additional poker machines and extended opening hours. It's estimated with these changes the venue will rake in an extra $3.3 million on top of the $4.4 million they already take from the community every year.
At the VCGLR hearing we heard about:
- Poor Responsible Service of Gambling,
- The horrible treatment of local community members when the RSL shut down the Preston Club's sporting facilities,
- Issues with transparency of their community contributions,
- Submissions by dozens of concerned community members urging the Commission to reject the application due to fears of what it could do to the community.
We want you to write to your local councillors and ask them to appeal this decision to VCAT. If Darebin City Council does take it to VCAT it will make it even more difficult for the Darebin RSL to get pokies in their venue and we are one step closer to winning the fight!
