Which of the policies referred to in our Candidate Information Pack do you support?
What is your position on poker machine policy?
I support all of them. Thank you for asking for my position on this important topic and thank you for lobbying in this area. As a GP I see many people who suffer from gambling-related harm; governments at any level should not support gambling in any capacity. According to an Alliance for Gambling reform paper in 2019 the number of Poker machine numbers in the Canterbury Bankstown council area had increased to 5,067, (more than double all the pub and club poker machines in all of Tasmania). This is an area of relatively low incomes; since the pandemic, social disadvantage will have increased. In 2019 it was reported that "Poker machine losses in clubs and pubs in the Canterbury-Bankstown council area soared continue to soar, with the LGA holding the dubious honour of the state’s highest daily losses - $1.558million per day, every day of the year." This is a situation that needs reform and if I can be part of that, will. As a Greens candidate, I do not accept donations from corporates or any gambling-related activity.
I absolutely hate poker machines my own father is a bad poker machine Gambler he's nearly lost everything. I've seen also other poker machine Gamblers a lot of younger blokes in their 20s and early thirties who also gamble as I worked in IT a lot of the younger blokes. It is absolutely disgusting poker machines should be banned.
