Which of the policies referred to in our Candidate Information Pack do you support?
What is your position on poker machine policy?
I support all three
Removing gambling sponsorship from community sport and increasing council support for community sport, not having council supported events at gambling venues, removing rates discounts for gambling venues, having other non-gambling venues open after hours
I support all of the policies and actions set out in the candidate information resources. I think it is especially troubling that Children are continually exposed to gambling advertising. If elected I would encourage and push for council to pursue measures to reduce harm from gambling and poker machines.
I support all policies and advocacy actions in the Candidate Information resources; in particular, I support Council action to create more gambling-free public spaces, I back the call for gambling-free community sport and the allocation for funding that enables community sporting organisations to reject gambling money, and I pledge to always consider what can be done to stop the expansion of gambling in our suburbs & towns
I support a reduction in poker machines
I would oppose a DA for a casino type venue in our LGA and agree there should be no gambling in community sport. I am very tired of seeing around 2 gambling advertisements in every add break on television as well. Identifying gambling as an issue in the Council Strategic Plan is something I would advocate for. I have read and understood the Local Government Advocacy policies provided for reducing harm from gambling. Thank you for the information.
Thank you for the opportunity to fill out this survey. I support gambling-free community sport, oppose the expansion of gambling, and reducing the opening hours of poker machine spaces.
Gambling and poker machines manipulate people and cause enormous harm to our communities. If elected, I will work to reduce this harm and support policies that limit gambling advertising and restrict the availability of poker machines. Councils are limited in what they can do in regards to poker machines but I will personally oppose any new poker machine facilities and work towards reducing the number of existing ones.
Advocacy and Advocacy for Local Councils
Hello & I'd first like to start by saying thanks to the Alliance for Gambling Reform for hosting a candidate information webinar/briefing. I found it very informative and was honestly surprised about some of the things touched on including the whooping amount of $2,591,482 lost a week in the Lake Macquarie LGA to gambling.
In regards to the policies mentioned in the "Candidate Policy Guide" document, all of these seem quite reasonable for any Council across NSW to pursue and if I was to be elected, I would look forward to speaking with Council staff to identify what policies are already in place (if any) and work towards what would be good 'first steps' to addressing the issues and working towards these types of policies.
I would also be very happy to collaborate with the Alliance for Gambling Reform, local residents and any key stakeholders to work towards these goals & outcomes.
A loss to our community of over $2.5M per WEEK is unacceptable and I support all measures proposed by the Alliance to mitigate the terrible effects of gambling on local families. I particularly support the banning of gambling advertising as i see the curiosity it generates in my own children. I also pledge to pursue the policies outlined in the Candidate Policy Guide document, if elected, where council sets the standard when it comes to gambling reform.
