GAMBLING LOSSES FOR THE AREA

NSW Liquor and Gaming bundle together the data for neighbouring council areas if, in one or more of those areas, there are less than 5 venues of a type. These bundled groups are not consistent from one half year to the next, nor are they necessarily the same for pubs and clubs. It makes it very difficult to establish losses in individual council areas which do not have many gambling pubs or clubs.

What is your position on poker machine policy?
I support gambling free public space as a very important issue. I recently raised concerns with Council regarding their use of the public square to show the Melbourne Cup - with social media channels for council all promoting it as a "family friendly" outing. The square where the race was shown was right near the TAB.
I also support gambling free community sport, and action on a council level to stop the spread of gambling into communities. Council should certainly have the ability to reject applications for gambling venues, or for the installation of poker machines in existing venues.
I would support a number of the policies and advocacy actions. We do not have any poker machines on council land in Lane Cove. The venues which do have them are independent. They are the only venues large enough to hold functions at this point in time. I wold stand for the policy to not allow for gaming on any future council land developments and to advocate for the education on gambling being a health risk.
