GAMBLING LOSSES FOR THE AREA
This council area has by far the largest number of poker machines in hotels. It ranks 1st in the state for losses through pub pokies, and 39th for losses through clubs. The statistics here don’t include the poker machines in The Star casino, but annually, they take another $345million.

What is your position on poker machine policy?
As a Greens candidate, I strongly support the Alliance's policies and advocacy actions, particularly the campaign's aims to change the law to give local councils greater powers to limit or ban poker machines. I look forward to the opportunity to work with the Alliance if elected on the City of Sydney Council.
Previously as an elected Councillor on Marrickville Council, we were able to ban pokies in venues controlled by the Council. We also closed a number of unauthorised gambling venues. However, with so many State laws designed to facilitate gambling, it was incredibly frustrating not to be able to do more.
The City of Sydney Council area is home to a large number of pokies, and also two major casinos - Crown and Star. The Greens voted against the Crown licence being granted to Packer, and opposed the construction of the Crown Casino. We will continue to actively campaign to shut the casino's down.
