Today the Alliance for Gambling Reform and survivors with lived experience of gambling harm will gather at Victorian Parliament to meet with government, opposition and crossbench MPs in the wake of the Crown Royal Commission and the upcoming passage of the Casino Amendment Bill 2021.

Carolyn Crawford, a grandmother of six who testified at the Crown RC about the gambling harm that led to her imprisonment at 64, says:

“The outcome of the Royal Commission just wasn’t good enough. How is it that these industry bigwigs are stealing millions from our community and keep their operating license for another two years? What a joke.

“I went to jail for stealing $400,000 but no one at Crown is being held adequately accountable, where's the justice?"

“That’s why I’m here today alongside countless others who have experienced gambling harm. We’ve felt firsthand the impacts and it’s us who have the solutions. It’s time for MPs to take note and take real action.”

Rose O’Leary, the Lead Victorian Campaigner for the Alliance says:

“The Alliance is here today, alongside those who have experienced gambling harm, to meet with MPs across the political spectrum and push for stronger reforms.

“While we welcome the legislation moving through parliament today, we know that it is simply not enough to end the pain caused to communities across Victoria.

“That’s why it’s so important that the voices of people like Carolyn are heard by our representatives. Those closest to the harm are often closest to the solution. They must have a seat at the table as we continue implementing these long overdue reforms.”

Carolyn & Rose are available for further comment.
